The President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Comrade Engineer Festus Osifo, has reaffirmed the union’s commitment to gender inclusion and women empowerment in the oil and gas industry. He made this known while speaking at the 3rd edition of the PENGASSAN Women Annual Convention (PWAC), held on April 15, 2026, at Top Rank Galaxy Hotel, Abuja, where stakeholders gathered to advance conversations on women’s leadership and development.
Osifo commended the PENGASSAN Women Commission (PWC), led by Comrade Engr. (Dr.) Ada Mbanaso, for its consistent efforts in building a strong network that supports and empowers women within the association. He noted that the Commission has played a vital role in encouraging women to take up leadership positions and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the industry and national development.
Speaking on the theme,
“The Dynamic Woman: Shaping Tomorrow Influence, Impact and Legacy,” Osifo described it as timely and reflective of the changing role of women in society. He emphasized that women are no longer waiting for opportunities but are actively creating them, driving change, and making significant contributions across professional and leadership spaces. He urged female members to sustain advocacy for progressive policies, embrace mentorship, and prioritise their health and professional growth.
The PENGASSAN President also highlighted the union’s ongoing capacity-building initiatives, including leadership programmes and workshops designed to equip women with the skills needed to thrive in a complex industry. He further called on the Federal Government to address key national challenges, particularly by cushioning the effects of rising petroleum product prices, improving electricity supply, and ensuring transparency in the management of the nation’s Strategic Fuel Reserves.
In her welcome address, the National Chairperson of the PENGASSAN Women Commission, Comrade Engr. (Dr.) Ada Mbanaso, expressed appreciation to participants and described the convention as a platform for shaping the future of women in the sector. She noted that the theme reflects a shift from participation to influence, urging women to pursue meaningful impact and build lasting legacies for the next generation.
