By Ola Asubiojo

The Executive Chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, Ekiti State, Hon. Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga, has urged pupils and students across the local government to embrace academic excellence, discipline and positive values as they resume for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Hon.Oluwatuyi, while welcoming pupils, students, teachers, headteachers and principals back to school, expressed gratitude to God for preserving their lives and enabling them to return to their respective schools healthy, safe and sound, describing their resumption as the commencement of another important chapter in their educational journey.

Hon. Oluwatuyi, according to a statement made available to newsmen, encouraged the students to approach the new academic session with renewed determination, seriousness and a positive mindset, urging them to pursue knowledge with excellence and work towards achieving remarkable academic feats capable of serving as enduring reference points in their individual lives and communities.

He noted that the students represented the organic future leaders of the country, Ekiti State and the local government system, stressing that the classrooms of today are the leadership laboratories of tomorrow.

Oluwatuyi therefore charged them to take their studies seriously and develop the intellectual capacity, character and competence required to assume greater responsibilities in the future.

He emphasised that academic success should not be pursued in isolation from good character, urging the students to shun activities and practices capable of compromising their education, moral upbringing and future prospects.

Hon.Oluwatuyi particularly cautioned against cultism, examination malpractice, stealing, unhealthy sexual practices and other forms of immoral and unethical behaviour, noting that such tendencies could derail students from their academic pursuits, compromise their values and ultimately stagnate their progress in life..

He encouraged the students to resist negative peer influence, cultivate discipline, respect their teachers and parents, choose their friends carefully and remain committed to learning, insisting that genuine success is built on diligence, integrity, perseverance and consistent self-improvement..

The Chairman also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustainable educational development in Igede-Ekiti and Awo-Ekiti, stressing that existing interventions in the education sector would receive further attention and upgrading in line with the administration’s grassroots development agenda.

According to him, the local government’s educational drive is being pursued within the broader developmental philosophy of the Ekiti State Government under the leadership of Governor Abayomi Oyebanji, whom he described as his pragmatic political mentor and coach.

He acknowledged the Governor’s commitment to educational development and human-capital advancement since assuming office, noting that the local government’s efforts would continue to complement the administration’s broader vision of building a more educated, skilled and productive generation of Ekiti youths.

Oluwatuyi further charged teachers, headteachers and principals to remain committed to their responsibilities, recognising their critical role in moulding the intellectual and moral foundations of the younger generation.

He maintained that the quality of education available to children today would significantly influence the quality of leadership and governance available to society tomorrow.

The Chairman consequently called on parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in providing the children with the necessary academic, moral and social support required to excel.

He expressed optimism that the 2026/2027 academic session would usher in improved academic performances, stronger character development and greater opportunities for pupils and students across Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government.

He reiterated that investing in education remained one of the most sustainable ways of empowering the younger generation, breaking limitations and preparing them to contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigeria, Ekiti State and the grassroots communities in the years ahead.
