The lawmaker representing Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Hon. Biodun Omoleye, has extended his solar-powered street-light project to 10 more communities in Ekiti State, bringing the total number of towns and villages covered by the initiative to 33.

The latest installations, carried out across Ijero, Ekiti West and Efon Local Government Areas, are aimed at improving security, boosting night-time economic activities and providing essential infrastructure for residents.

The project, now in its third phase, focuses on strategic public institutions and locations considered vital to community safety and wellbeing.

Beneficiaries include schools, hospitals, police stations, traditional palaces, motor parks, markets and other public spaces.

The 10 communities covered in the latest phase are Efon, Ijero, Aramoko, Ido-Ile, Ikogosi, Ijurin, Ikoro, Odo-Owa, Iroko and Iloro-Ekiti.

Among the educational institutions illuminated are Ipoti High School, Ipoti-Ekiti; Babatope Memorial Grammar School, Ikoro-Ekiti; Ijurin Comprehensive High School, Ijurin-Ekiti; Iloro Community High School, Iloro-Ekiti; Iroko High School, Iroko-Ekiti; and Eso-Obe High School, Ikoro-Ekiti.

The project also covers the Divisional Police Station, Ijero-Ekiti; Ekiti State Specialist Hospital, Ijero-Ekiti; NUT House and NULGE House, both in Efon-Alaaye; Aramoko Market; INEC and SIEC offices, Ijero-Ekiti; and the Comprehensive Health Centre, Ijurin-Ekiti.

Other locations benefiting from the intervention include Isalu, Ijemu and Okebola Streets in Iloro-Ekiti; Isasa, Ijofi and Ijowa Streets in Aramoko-Ekiti; Ikogosi Palace and adjoining streets; Oba Ajibola/Isaac Kolawole Road in Ijurin-Ekiti; the Igede/Ado bypass in Aramoko-Ekiti; and Itawure-Efon Road.

The latest expansion marks a significant milestone in Omoleye’s constituency development programme and fulfils his campaign pledge that no community within the federal constituency would be left out of his development agenda.

With all 33 towns and villages now covered by the solar street-light initiative, the project has become one of the major components of the lawmaker’s grassroots intervention programme.

Residents of the beneficiary communities have commended Omoleye for what they described as a practical and people-oriented approach to constituency representation.

According to the residents, the solar lights would improve visibility and security at night, encourage commercial activities and enhance the environment around public institutions and major community roads.

Some residents said the project would be particularly beneficial to communities where commercial activities and movement continue after sunset, adding that improved lighting could help deter criminal activities and make the areas safer.

They also commended the lawmaker for spreading constituency projects across communities rather than concentrating interventions in a few locations.

The latest phase of “Omoleye’s Operation Street Lights Revolution” is expected to further enhance security, commerce and community life across Ekiti Central, while reinforcing the lawmaker’s stated commitment to grassroots development and responsive representation.

The completion of the latest installations, the residents said, demonstrates a constituency-focused approach to representation, with interventions directed at projects that address the everyday needs of the people.
