Your commitment to supporting institutions that train the next generation of medical professionals is highly commendable. – Vice Chancellor
The Governing Board and Senate of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) have resolved to confer its prestigious Honorary Fellowship (FNMC) on the Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to national development, particularly in healthcare, medical education, infrastructure development, human capacity development and philanthropy.
The College conveyed the decision in a letter signed by its Registrar, Prof. Temitope A. Esan, MD, F.M.C.D.S. describing Dr Olowolafe as a distinguished medical doctor, visionary entrepreneur, business leader and philanthropist whose impact cuts across healthcare, infrastructure, education, energy and investment sectors of Nigeria.
The Honorary Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FNMC) is described by the College as its highest and most prestigious award with previous recipients including former Presidents of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, President Ibrahim Babangida and Chief Yakubu Gowon, as well as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, and other distinguished national icons.
Reacting to this development, the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof Joseph Babatola Ayodele described the honour as a well-deserved recognition of Dr Olowolafe’s remarkable contributions to the development of healthcare, medical education, human capacity development and national development.
Prof Ayodele commended Dr Olowolafe for his philanthropic intervention in postgraduate medical education, noting that his US$125,000 contribution to the Faculty of Ophthalmology of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in July 2025 provided the principal funding for the acquisition of a high-fidelity virtual reality simulation machine.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the support also facilitated the renovation of the Gbemisola Olowolafe Centre for Ophthalmic Simulation, thereby creating a modern and technology-driven environment for advanced surgical training.
“This prestigious recognition is a fitting acknowledgement of your exceptional contributions to healthcare, medical education, human capacity development and national advancement.
We are particularly proud that your commitment to medical education has been recognised by Nigeria’s foremost postgraduate medical training institution. This honour further affirms the impact of your service and philanthropy on society.” he said.
The conferment is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 17th September 2026, during the Annual Convocation Ceremony of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria for new Specialists and Doctor of Medicine degree graduates.
