EKSU Vice Chancellor sympathises with Students After Hostel Fire Incident

The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, has expressed sympathy with students who lost their belongings in a fire incident that gutted a private student hostel located behind Prosperous Hostel, Iworoko-Ekiti, off the university campus.

The inferno, which reportedly occurred while the occupants were away, completely destroyed the building and all properties belonging to the students, leaving them with no opportunity to salvage any of their belongings. The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.

Professor Ayodele, accompanied by members of the university management, including the Chief Security Officer, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs, and the Students’ Union President, visited the scene shortly after the incident to assess the extent of the damage and sympathised with the affected students.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice Chancellor thanked God that no life was lost and that no one sustained injuries in the unfortunate incident.

He described the incident as distressing and assured the affected students of the university’s concern for their welfare.

Professor Ayodele also advised the owner of the affected building to report the incident to the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for possible assistance.

The Vice Chancellor further urged students to observe all fire safety precautions by avoiding unsafe electrical connections and refraining from practices that could trigger fire outbreaks.

The university management reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of students and encouraged members of the university community to remain vigilant and adhere to safety regulations at all times.
