
Residents of the Gbonyin Local Council Development Area have expressed relief and appreciation following the commencement of a comprehensive road grading exercise initiated by the Council Chairman Hon Benedict Oluwadamilare Ajayi
The project, which began today targets several untarred roads across major communities and farm steads within the council area.
Speaking during the flag-off of the exercise the Chairman stated that the initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing economic activities at the grassroots level.
According to him , the grading exercise will address long-standing challenges faced by motorists, farmers, traders, and residents, particularly during the rainy season when many roads become difficult to navigate.
“We are determined to make our roads motorable and safe for our people. Good roads are essential for economic growth, access to healthcare, education, and other social services,” Ajayi opined
Community leaders who witnessed the exercise commended the council for responding to their concerns.
A resident described the intervention as timely, noting that the exercise would ease difficulty facing motorists and other road users in the council area.
Transport operators also welcomed the development, stating that improved road conditions would reduce vehicle damage and ensure smoother movement of goods and passengers.
Speaking on the exercise, The Director of Works Department in the council QS Bunmi Olonilua confirmed that the grading will be carried out in phases, prioritizing high-traffic and economically significant routes.
She noted that the exercise would be well monitored in a bid for the contractor to do the job to specification
The Chairman called on residents to support the initiative by protecting public infrastructure and maintaining proper drainage systems to prolong the lifespan of the roads.
