As Ekiti State marks the 30th anniversary of its creation, the Chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga, has described the three-decade journey as a remarkable chapter in the history, identity and development of the people of the state.
The Chairman, while reflecting on the significance of the anniversary, noted that the creation of Ekiti State in October 1st 1996, represented more than the emergence of a new administrative entity, stressing that it provided a stronger platform for the people to express their aspirations, preserve their rich cultural heritage and pursue collective development.
According to him, three decades of statehood have witnessed a gradual but remarkable transformation, shaped by the resilience, intellectual depth, resourcefulness and progressive disposition of Ekiti people.
He observed that the journey from October 1st,1996 to date has been characterised by contributions from successive administrations, each adding its own chapter to the evolving story of Ekiti’s development.
The Chairman particularly acknowledged the contributions of former governors and other stakeholders whose policies, initiatives and developmental foundations, according to him, have continued to provide building blocks for subsequent administrations.
He described the administration of Governor Abayomi Oyebanji as another significant phase in the state’s developmental journey, noting that the Governor has continued to build on existing foundations while introducing initiatives aimed at advancing the socio-economic fortunes of the state.
Hon. Oluwagbenga referred to Governor Oyebanji as a “Game Changer” and “Jinx Breaker,” stressing that his administration’s approach has continued to place emphasis on development, institutional growth, human capital, infrastructure and the general welfare of the people.
He, however, emphasised that sustainable development cannot be achieved by government alone, pointing to the importance of the collective support, cooperation and constructive participation of Ekiti people.
For the people of Igede-Ekiti and Awo-Ekiti, the anniversary, he noted, offers another opportunity to reflect on their contributions to the larger Ekiti project and to renew their commitment to the advancement of their communities and the state at large.
He charged staff and residents of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, as well as Ekiti people across the various communities, to continue embracing initiatives that promote peace, unity, accountability, innovation and sustainable development.
The Chairman expressed optimism that with purposeful leadership, responsible citizenship and the continued support of the people, Ekiti State would consolidate its achievements and rise to even greater heights in the social, economic, political, educational and infrastructural spheres.
Happy 30th Anniversary, Ekiti State!
