EKSU Refutes Misleading Social Media Claim, Urges Public to Disregard

The Management of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti has described as false and misleading, a claim circulating on the social media, alleging that the Chairman of the University Governing Council, Professor Akin Oyebode, lambasted the Governor of Ekiti State and Visitor to the University, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, during a Council meeting and allegedly described him as “too desperate for a second term.”

The University wishes to state unequivocally that no such statement was made at the Council meeting, and the claim is a complete misrepresentation of the proceedings of the Governing Council.

Professor Akin Oyebode, a distinguished scholar, pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Law and former Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, is widely known for his unwavering commitment to the growth and stability of the institution. As Chairman of our Governing Council, he was appointed by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, to lead a well-composed and purpose driven Council, made up of experienced technocrats, academics and professionals who are dedicated to advancing the development of the University.

Professor Oyebode has consistently demonstrated deep commitment to the progress of Ekiti State University, which he often and fondly refers to as “the only industry in Ekiti State.” His leadership of the Governing Council has been focused on strengthening the institution, improving staff and students’ welfare, and ensuring that policies of Council are implemented promptly for the overall interest of the University.

It is on record, that the professor Akin Oyebode, has regularly applauded the Governor and Visitor to the University, H.E Biodun Oyebanji, for his continued support to the University, particularly, the increase in subvention to the institution, the prompt release to our university, the monthly subventions and the payment of all outstanding subventions, which have significantly led to improvement in the financial stability and operations of the University.

Under the leadership of Professor Oyebode, the Governing Council has remained focused on its statutory responsibilities of formulating policies that enhance the welfare of staff and students, strengthening the academic environment, and ensuring peace, stability as well as orderly governance within the University.

The Management, therefore, urges members of the public to disregard in its entirety, the false social media report, which appears designed to misinform the public and create unnecessary controversy around the activities of the University.

Ekiti State University, remains committed to its core mandate of teaching, research and community service, while continuing to work harmoniously with the Visitor and all stakeholders to advance the development of the institution.
